Issue ‘mobility’ at the 2026 Hamburg Construction Day

The business networking event, featuring more than 35 companies, was well attended

In the morning, numerous high-ranking representatives from the worlds of politics, business and research gathered at Hamburg University of Technology to discuss the topic of mobility for the first time at the Hamburg Construction Day: ‘Future Prospects for Transport Infrastructure’ – what will Hamburg’s mobility look like in the future, and what challenges will this present?

The 22nd Construction Day was chaired by Prof. Carsten Gertz, Head of the Institute for Transport Planning and Logistics at Hamburg University of Technology. He welcomed several distinguished guests to the podium as speakers – including Dr Anjes Tjarks, Hamburg’s Senator for Transport and the Mobility Transition, who emphasised the significance of the event: “The 22nd Construction Day at Hamburg University of Technology is an excellent example of the committed exchange between academia, industry and public administration – and demonstrates how important joint dialogue is for the future of our city.”

Manja Biel, Chief Executive of our partner organisation, the Hamburg-Schleswig-Holstein Construction Industry Association, highlighted the quality of education at the TUHH: “The Hamburg  University of Technology provides excellent training for the next generation of professionals in our industry across all disciplines of construction. Our foundation’s Bachelor’s and Master’s awards are our way of recognising the outstanding achievements of students throughout their academic studies at the TU. The participation of many of our member companies in the careers fair demonstrates the keen interest in establishing early contact with students at the TU Hamburg – which creates a win-win situation for both sides.”

At the traditional awards ceremony, the top Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates were honoured by Christian Weber, a board member of the Hamburg Construction Industry Foundation and managing director of the Harburg-based construction firm HC Hagemann GmbH & Co. KG:

  • The Bachelor’s Prize for the best degrees in the Civil and Environmental Engineering programme was awarded to Lina Sophie Jakubczik and Florian Weiß
  • Lena Schultheiß, a graduate of the Master’s programme in Water and Environmental Engineering, was honoured with the Master’s Prize for her thesis “Fuel Additives in a Biomass Combined Heat and Power Plant – Impact on Dust and CO Emissions”
  • Simon Seger, a graduate of the Master’s programme in Civil Engineering, was also awarded a prize for his equally outstanding Master’s thesis “Investigation of deck plates in historic steel railway bridges with regard to load-bearing widths and fatigue behaviour”.

In the afternoon, students took advantage of the numerous opportunities to make important contacts at the large careers fair, which featured over 35 companies.

The 22nd Hamburg Construction Day was organised by the Student Council for Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Institute for Transport Planning and Logistics.

The Dean’s Office for Civil and Environmental Engineering congratulates the award winners and thanks all the organisers for planning and staging this important event!
